Abstract

This paper reviews the figure of prostitution, analyzing its negative elements which the neoliberal system makes invisible in order to legitimize one of the most lucrative industries in the world. Despite the liberal argument that prostitution constitutes a job like any other, it is found as a result of patriarcal culture and a form of instrumentalization of female body that reproduces gender inequalities achieve the above, a critical explanation through the bibliographic review will be made about the content and purposes of this figure, as well as its legal regulation in selected countries, attending the current theorical discussion that divides the feminist movement. Finally, it is found that prostitution affects equality between women and men. Furthemore, the abolitionist legal regulation of this figure which considers it as a form of violence against women, significantly reduces the demand for prostitution.
