Linguistic skills and reading failure in deaf students

Abstract
One of the main problems that causes the hearing loss is the correct access to the written language and the capacity to achieve a suitable and functional reading skill. This article is a revision of the main investigations carried out in the last 40 years in connection with the causes that originate the reading failure of deaf students. The lexical, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic abilities of the language are analyzed.
