Teacher training: who is the teacher trainer?

Abstract

The article sets out to describe the Professional Profile of Trainers of Teachers who took part in postgraduate courses for primary school, from a gender perspective. In addition, it intends to contribute to the debate of professional development from a key actor, who is not usually considered when educational policies are designed: the teacher trainer. From a quantitative descriptive methodology of censal character (N=363), the study presents as a result the characterization of a profile that identifies personal as well as academic characteristics and performance of scientific productivity of the trainers. This is discussed at the light of the current debate on the effective education and the role of the gender in the teachers professional development.
