Experience of a contribution to sustainable development in Chile

Abstract
This research shows some of the activities of the Southern Environmental Corporation (CAS), of the early 90s. The work reports on some of its activities in local territories, in a joint effort between local state entities such as townships, educational establishments, also linked to regional, national and international organizations, universities and some private companies. Activities that were carried out mainly in communities in southern Chile and later in the Metropolitan Region, as well as in some communes in other regions of the country. Methodologically, the work of the CAS was to strengthen local management of sustainable development in which municipalities, social organizations such as Neighborhood Councils, youth groups, and educational establishments were active participants. The objective is to show some of the practical activities carried out by the CAS, their results and the learning that emerges from them, which could be useful for other initiatives of this nature, faced with the challenges of climate change. This study is based directly on the written sources of the CAS itself referring to its activities and the experiences of the authors of this article who participated for many years in the work and existence of this institution. Among the results are seminars, workshops, practical actions on environmental issues, strengthening of environmental education, capacity building in municipalities to facilitate and promote local environmental management.
