Abstract

It is intended to show that, regardless of their culture, human beings become obsessed with certain phenomena that are beyond normality and which they find out about in various ways, which prompts them to unravel that mystery, especially when said phenomenon appears associated with a personal benefit. Its persistence over time turns it into a legend, and when the link with the initial fact, real or imaginary, that caused it is lost, it ends up becoming a myth, which is usually contaminated with other similar stories, as will be seen when examining the myths the most notorious that, together with the promise of riches, served as incentives for the exploration of the new continent.
