The museum-newspapers of César H. Bacle and the ways of disseminating knowledge (Buenos Aires, 1835-1836)

Abstract

The article adresses the newspapers that César H. Bacle edited in his lithographic workshop in Buenos Aires during the 1830s: Museo Americano. Libro de Todo el Mundo (1835) and El Recopilador. Museo Americano (1836). These are pioneering publications in the River Plate region, since they were the first to include lithographed images. Taking into account the identification with the museum that they propose from their titles, we analyze the mode of composition of these newspapers in which it refers to the selection criteria, classification and arrangement of the heterogeneous materials that its pages gave to read. We also propose an inquiry about the link between the conception of knowledge that these editorial projects supported and the material strategies of use of the journalistic device.
