Abstract

The amount of extracts and bark acidity from four different Chilean hardwoods (arrayán, coigüe, canelo and tepa) was measured and results revealed that the pH of the bark differed depending on the species. This is also valid for the buffering capacity of the extracts, the amount of volatile acids and the Stiasny value. The influence of a thermal treatment differed depending on the species.
