Abstract

In general, logging activities require the construction of landings to concentrate the ongoing production, the timber bucking operations, and the loading of trucks. The present paper proposes a function that enables the user to determine the minimum landing size based on a spacial and geometrical analysis of the areas required for the tasks inside the landing. This function considers variables such as: number of skidders, number of loading machinery, and the timber stock. The estimated landing size for the conditions of a particular stand ensures the normal development of harvest and hauling, and facilitates logging planning.
