Abstract

The objective of the project is to promote the diversification of species in forestry plantations in Chile (Regions VII and XI) by reforesting and afforesting soils producing crops with low yields at present, with the purpose of improving the conditions of biological and economic sustainability of the sector.
To carry out the project, technological packages with information on silvicultural, technological-industrial and economical potentials, as well as the market potentials of three promissory forestry species (Castanea sativa, Quercus robur y Cupressus torulosa) will be developed.
In this context, the project is on four large modules: silviculture and management; industrial technology of wood; market and economy; and, a module on diffusion and transference of technology. The participating institutions (Instituto Forestal, Universidad Austral de Chile and Fundación Chile) have the scientific and technological capacity necessary to transfer such know-how and results to the market with the purpose of reaching the objectives of the project.
