Main Article Content
Abstract
Fire Behavior is a concept which should be known and applied in the preparation and implementation of forest fire control plans and in the use of prescribed burning in forest management.
This publication develops a conceptual analysis of fire behavior, the variables which characterize it (basically rate of spread and fire intensity) and the factors (topographical, vegetational and climatic) which influence the starting and spreading of fires.
The text briefly describes the aplication of various aspects of the fire behavior concept which traditionally are included in the field of fire prevention and fighting.
Finally, in order to make the material better known in Chile, some information is presented about the intended contribution of the Universidad Austral's Proyect F-8.
