DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES: SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ABOUT COMMUNITY BASED TOURISM

Abstract
Community-based tourism may have potential in countries and regions with few other competitive exports, or in areas that are vulnerable to traditional economic activities by compromising the livelihoods of many populations. Therefore, it is questioned how the authors have treated Community Based Tourism (TBC) in their research? How is the academic-scientific research developed on the subject and what is its treatment regarding to conventional or mass tourism? Which analysis cuts are considered in the study of Community Based Tourism? Thus, the objective of this article is to analyze the scientific production on TBT at a global level and its potential for local development. Methodologically, it is depicted as descriptive, documentary, quantitative and longitudinal. So, it could be accomplished, a bibliometric research was done, where 100 articles were analyzed in Scielo, sciencedirect, capes, sbecotur (periodical) databases, during the period of 2011 till 2015, composing a mental map of the related productions, and bibliographical, as well as documentary research, to present the state of the art on the subject. As a result, the main themes related to the TBC, the study territories, the shaping elements, and the contribution of Community Based Tourism for the development of the host communities are observed.
